The current course was designed in 1927 by famed architects Harry S. Colt and Charles "Hugh" Alison. The golf course is consistently ranked in the Top 100 courses in America by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golfweek.
The Club has hosted USGA National Championships, including the 1969 Walker Cup Matches, the 1988 U.S. Senior Amateur and the 2008 U.S. Mid-Amateur.
For the last 20 years Milwaukee Country Club has used golf architects Tom Doak and Don Placek of Renaissance Golf Design for a long-term course restoration project. The partnership with Renaissance began in 2005 with the focus on tree removal, fairway & greenside bunkering, and tees. In August of 2026 the course will undergo a re-grassing of the greens project which should be the final stage of the long-term restoration project.
The Club has an exceptional caddie program and over 75% of all rounds played are walking. The membership strongly supports the Evans Scholarship Program as well as providing deserving caddies scholarship opportunities through it's own, MCC Scholars Program.
The Golf Shop has approximately 800 square feet of retail space and is owned by the Director of Golf. The Wisconsin PGA Section awarded the previous Director of Golf (Skip Simonds) "Private Merchandiser of the Year" in 2018, 2019, & 2023.
Milwaukee Country Club has a tradition of its golf professionals teaching the game. Manuel de la Torre was the club's long time golf professional and is in the PGA of America Hall of Fame as well as the World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame. Milwaukee Country Club's incoming Director of Golf, Bobby Peterson, was recently named one as one of Golf Digest's Best Young Teachers in America (2025-2026).
